What is Hospice?

Hospice is specialized care designed to support individuals and their loved ones during a life-limiting illness. The focus of care is on comfort and quality of life, rather than cure. Hospice care addresses the medical, physical, emotional, spiritual, and social needs of each patient while also being there to support their loved ones. The goal is to effectively manage a patient’s pain and symptoms so that they may live each day to the fullest.

Quality of Life: As you consider your options, it will help to understand how hospice care supports the many needs of your loved one, along with your needs and the needs of others in your family. Hospice focuses on comfort, dignity, emotional support and reduction of financial concerns. The quality of life for the patient, as well as the family members and caregivers, is the highest priority.

Comfort: Environment of comfort is important to our hospice philosophy. As much as possible, we will work to keep your loved one at home where they can be surrounded by family, friends and the things that they have grown to cherish.

Dignity: Hospice can bring your loved one a greater sense of peace knowing that they are in control by communicating with the patient and caregiver, we create an individualized plan of care to support their wishes about how the remainder of their life is spent.

Emotional Support: We help you and your loved one understand their emotions and cope with their illness. We also support those who have lost a loved one by helping them begin to heal and ultimately regain the ability to reinvest in life and relationships.

Financial Concerns: The hospice benefit covers 100% of the cost for medications, medical equipment and supplies related to the hospice diagnosis. Professional healthcare providers are available 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Visits are scheduled based on the individualized needs of your loved one.
